TEXAS RENTER RESOURCES

Texas Housing Help Finder and HUD Rent Benchmarks

Use this Texas housing help finder to look up properties listed by HUD and housing authority offices, then compare HUD rent benchmarks.

01 / FIND A PLACE TO ASK

Housing help, closer to home

Search by city, 5 digit ZIP code or the name of an office or property. An office’s address doesn’t tell you its service area, so ask which communities it covers.

02 / SEE HOW YOUR RENT COMPARES

What is the HUD rent benchmark?

Choose an area to see its benchmark.

Source: HUD Fair Market Rents. Some voucher programs use Small Area Fair Market Rents set by ZIP code, or payment standards the local agency adopts. Ask the housing authority which one applies to you.

03 / KNOW WHAT TO DO NEXT

What to ask when you call

Ask about availability

“Are applications open? Is there a waiting list? Which bedroom sizes and programs are available, and how do I apply with you directly?”

Check criteria before fees

“Can you send the written income, rental history and screening criteria? What fees would I pay, and which are refundable?”

Keep more than one path open

Housing assistance can take a long time. Keep looking at regular market rentals as you apply for programs. Our apartment search form doesn’t apply for HUD assistance for you.

Data sources and reuse

This page uses public HUD data we download each time the site is built. The retrieval date shows when we pulled the data, not when the provider last checked it. It doesn’t show waiting lists, open units or whether you’d qualify.

Housing authority names and addresses are available as an Open Referral HSDS organization export (JSON). Open Referral is a standard format for sharing listings like these.
